Recently the Milanese luxury scene got enriched by a new bakery shop. The mix of the high-end fashion brand Prada and the legendary pastry shop Pasticceria Marchesi created in no time another must-visit place in town. And how could it be otherwise when two iconic examples of the Italian excellence blend together?
We went for breakfast on Sunday morning, hoping that everyone else will be still sleeping so that I can take some pictures without pointing the camera in people’s faces. But nope, apparently Milan’s inhabitants can’t wait to wake up early on Sunday and go to Marchesi! The venue was super crowded, especially around the bar counter where the prices are much lower that the prices of items served on the table. However, I have to say that the service was excellent and we didn’t have to wait.
The ambiance is very pleasant for the sight, with soft pastel colors and walls decorated with silk floral-patterned jacquard wallpapers. I particularly loved the cozy green velvet armchairs and the marble topped tables and floor. Not to mention the custom made silverware that made everything even more glamorous.
What is even more interesting about this Pasticceria is the war that involved two big names of the fashion industry. Marchesi wasn’t the first choice for Prada. Two years ago they were engaged in a battle with LVMH over the acquisition of another top coffee house – Cova. The French luxury conglomerate won out leaving the Italians empty-handed and riled. However, two weeks ago the Prada owned Pasticceria Marchesi opened its doors almost right accross from Cova. Do you think that the choice of the location was random?
Fashion gossip apart, here are the pics I managed to snap at Pasticceria Mrchesi. Do you like it? Would you like to visit it?
