Shopping in Yangon: Bogyoke Aung San Market

When a friend of mine asked me to bring her a fridge magnet from Yangon I was about to reply that souvenirs doesn’t exist in Myanmar. This was true until we visited Bogyoke Market which, according to TripAdvisor is one of the major tourist attractions in town.

We probably would have skipped it but the fact was that we actually ran out of places to explore. So one morning we put our comfy shoes on (not that I had brought heels with me) and headed to the famous Bogyoke (pronounced as bodjok) Market.

This is what we saw:

Tips:

  • Bogyoke Market is closed on Mondays
  • The usual working hours are from 8-9 until 16:30-17:00
  • If you want to avoid the crowds go in the morning
  • Bargain is the usual thing

    1. Thank you, darling!
The markets for me are the fastest way to explore the local culture.
