Cacio e Pepe: When in Milan Do Like Romans Do

I could count the times I go to an Italian restaurant in a year on the fingers of my hands. Of course this doesn’t include the lunch breaks when the choice is quite limited.

The last time we went out for a dinner with our friends the choice fell on Cacio e Pepe, a place where you can eat classic Roman dishes, including the one the venue is named after – the famous pasta with pecorino Romano cheese and black pepper, along with starchy pasta water, which creates a creamy sauce.

The menu is not vast but what they have is superb. And considering that Italian cuisine is usually not my first choice it really means a lot. Actually if the dished were so delicious everywhere it would have been undoubtedly my most favorite.

Since it is autumn there were several choices of artichokes and chicory hearts that I couldn’t miss. Below are the photos of what we indulged in.

We were in four and paid around 250 euros. I would definitely return when I need carbo and protein refill. And if you happen to be in Milan and want to try some Roman food be sure to check it out.

Cacio e Pepe is in Viale Gian Galeazzo, 3, close to Piazza XXIV Maggio (closest metro station MM Porta Genova – green line + 12 minutes walking). For more information visit their website.
