Fashion in Thailand is like food – it is everywhere. From the street stalls to the covered markets and infinite number of shopping malls throughout the city – it is statistically improbable that you will remain empty-handed.
It’s no surprise that the local market, among the mass production imported from China, features plenty of indipendent fashion designers.
As a matter of fact many Thai people have the entrepreneurial instinct and for sure the office work is not what they dream of constantly. Actually most of the emerging and indipendent brands here are run by young people in their early twenties. If you mingle with them for a while and you are not a business owner probably you will start asking yourself whether you have made the right choices in your life.
Many of the designers have only online shops ( = Facebook and Instagram ) but this is not a problem as Bangkok offers many pop-up events every week in different areas of the city. This is a great opportunity for the consumers to see, touch and try out what they buy. Right now and until the 19th of September there is such an event hosted by the recently opened I’m Park ( near National stadium BTS ).
“Made by the young for the young” – this seems to be the motto of the local designers. Forget about traditional cuts and simplicity. All ripped denim clothing, oversized shirts and t-shirts, rhinestones and pearls, bows and crop tops, printed everything and sheer materials – Bangkok is definitely one of the best places for every fashionista.
