After spending two days at a local pop-up event I finally got the answer ( at least as regards to the domestic fashion scene ).
I have been wondering why everyone dresses in the same way here, then noticed that everyone sells the same (3-4 styles of) clothing. And you know why? Because this is what people want. I observed their behavior for more than 20 hours and here is a secret: if you ever want to target the thai market do what everyone else does and your success is guaranteed ( even more if you add some plausible superstition for good luck, love, health, happiness, creativity, etc. to the product ).
I guess this is why there are so few – luxury segment apart – western brands in Thailand ( compared to the infinite number of shopping malls ). They can never survive unless they adapt to the demand of the local market.
Stay tuned for the thai fashion trends in photos.
