Trend Alert: What bags do Thai women wear

Comfort and functionality come first – this is the simple conclusion of my field research on the current womens handbag trends in Bangkok. The leitmotiv seems to be “whatever it is I want my hands free”.

As in the shoes case, here we have a winner as well. The most popular is without any doubt the crossbody bag that comes in wide variey of styles, materials and moods. The most favored brands ( copies or not ) are Chanel, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Kate Spade but it is also easy to spot bags with ears or filled with unicorns and pastel colors stars ( mostly among the school and university girls ).

Another recurrent vision on the shoulder of the locals are the designer or not backpacks – structured, destructured, studded, leather, canvas or plush.

Of course there are also plenty of clutches ( but mostly among the guys ), totes, top handle and hobo bags but in this moment they are undoubtedly the minority, especially if they don’t provide a detachable leather/chain strap that can transform them into a crossbody bag.

Last but not least, whatever the design is, it often comes with a charm, a trend that doesn’t seem to fade
