The Bar at the Museum: Giacomo Cafè

The bar of the Royal Palace in Milan is a cozy place to recharge after visiting one of the many expositions and exhibitions on the upper floors. It is also a good option for the exhausted shoppers in the area who are looking for a relatively tranquil place where to enjoy a perfectly made creamy hot chocolate or an aperitivo accompanied by local snacks.

There are two salons. The one at the ground floor has a vintage feel, with its high ceiling, mirrors of royal proportions and red leather seatings. The upper floor has the atmosphere of a literary cafè as it is decorated and set up as a reading room. It feels much cozier and intimate but unfortunately is was all booked when we went.

If you are in the area and have some spare time I definitely reccomend you to visit it. It will give you a proper feel of the Milanese style and an also the chance to taste a gourmet coffee which is awarded 1 out 3 coffee beans score by Gambero Rosso (as I discovered, instead of Michelin stars, Gambero Rosso awards bars up to three chicchi (or coffee beans) and three tazzine (or small coffee cups). The coffee beans are a measure of espresso quality, with a secondary influence of how it is served).

Cafè Giacomo is situated inside the Royal Palace of Milan. If you enter from Piazza Duomo it will be on your left. It is open from 7.30 to 19:30, on Thursday and Saturday from 7:30 t 22:30. There is also a good wi-fi connection.

  1. That café looks lovely! Definitely on my list to visit next time when I am in Milan. I love coffee. But I didn’t know about the coffee beans score. I have already been to a Michelin Star awarded restaurant in Milan but never had a gourmet coffee so far…something I have to try as well 😉

    1. I didn’t know about the coffee beans score neither. I stumbled upon this info quite casually. Now I have a new mission – find a cafè with three out of three coffee beans score 😀
