Recently I discovered the world of Nicha – a Thai brand from Bangkok which exhibits chic elegance through an everyday wardrobe.
I also had to chance to meet the designer on Skype and ask her a few questions about herself and Thai fashion.
Here is what we talked about.
When did you first realize that fashion will be part of your life?
It happened around four years ago. My mother had founded her underwear brand and in the mean time I was studying Arts in San Francisco. I knew I wanted somehow to follow her path and take advantage of my studies. This is how the idea of my own brand popped for the first time in my mind.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I love to travel a lot and see new things. It makes me believe that everythings is possible. The inspiration comes to me when I least expect it, my creations are a mix of every place I visit, what I feel and what I witness.
Which are the biggest challenges you face as a Thai designer?
Many Thais have a “copy” mentality which makes it difficult to introduce something new. Also it happens often to me to find my designs in poorer quality sold on the street and there is nothing I can do to stop it.
What do you love the most about Thai style?
I don’t think women in Thailand have their own style, yet, buy I love how they match the pieces so that they look good and confident.
A must-haves for the next season?
Flower patterns, 3d prints, cut-outs matched with burgundi, green and mustard colors.
What are your recomendations to the young designers in Thailand?
To be confident and to follow their own style, not trying to please everyone. To be curious and do new things.
