Being on the go means learning how to be practical, which often results in leaving a lot of items behind that you may use every day back home but end up taking too much space in your bags. For anyone that is obsessed with hair care, this means finding travel sized options for products and ditching the salon-grade hair dryer. Ultimately, we end up learning to embrace our natural hair and become minimalistic in our beauty routines.
However, just because you can’t pack all of your bathroom’s contents in your luggage, it doesn’t mean you can’t maintain beautiful locks on your travels. In fact, there are lots of ways to make sure your hair is looking its best, using as little products and tools as possible.
Master the art of braiding
Braids are by far the easiest way to get those pesky hairs in place (and also result in beautiful waves after leaving them in all day). For those who find braiding difficult, beauty editor Amanda Montell swears by these chic braids, as shown on Byrdie. As one who is also hopeless at French and fishtail braiding, she explains that these hairstyles are deceptively easy and can be executed by anyone.
Bring conditioning spray for beach holidays
We all know the kind of damage that the sea and swimming pools can do to our hair. As much fun as it is getting some color and being in the water, salt and chlorine can leave our hair feeling sticky, crunchy, and prone to split ends. Keep conditioning spray handy whenever you’re going out for a swim to prevent all of that. An experienced wanderluster from the Y Travel Blog says that you can make your own spray rather than spending a huge amount on just a small bottle in the drugstore. All you have to do is mix 1 part conditioner with 5 parts water and put it in a spray bottle. After your swim at the beach or pool, shake the bottle and spritz it on the ends of your hair.
Air dry with a cotton t-shirt instead of blow dry
Some women are blessed with locks that look sleek and flawless when they air dry their hair out throughout the day, while the rest of us aren’t so lucky. Because washing and styling your hair can take up a lot of time, leave the hair washing for at night. Then, grab a cotton t-shirt and wrap your hair, according to the instructions outlined on Buzzfeed. What this does is eliminate all the frizz you would normally see from air drying. It also keeps your waves or curls intact, minus the heat damage.
Pack a one-inch hair flat iron instead of a curling iron
There are a lot hair hacks out there that can help you achieve beachy waves without heat, but not that many to keep your hair straight. An all-in-one tool that you could bring along with you is a one-inch flat iron. Because of how thin the iron is, it works just as well to curl as it does to straighten your hair, as beauty guru Theodore Leaf demonstrates in a video tutorial posted on The Scene. This kind of flat iron saves you the trouble from packing one too many unnecessary hair tools, and is perfect for when you want to get dressed up for a night out.

Great tips as usual. But won’t sleeping with a damp head cause a cold?
I think that if you sleep in a warm place it shouldn’t be a problem.
That’s why I do it only when I travel. Milan rarely feels hot enough to me 🙂
