I never thought I would come back from Zanzibar with a door but yes, I did.
They are one of the major attractions in Stone Town and if you see a place without a door it’s probably because it has been sold to an eager collector.
The next morning I woke up soaked in sweat wondering how on earth am I going to fit my clothes for two weeks, books, hair dryer, epilator, chargers for 6 devices and accessories for the GoPro in just 15 kgs. I should add: 15 kgs and 36cm x 68cm measurment limit. On Coastal’s website they even specify that the pilot has a pocket size scale to check and that if the dimensions are larger the luggage won’t even go through the door of the cargo pod. Moments of panick.
After we chose from the not-so-vast menu we had plenty of time to indulge in the beatiful savana scenery. The silence was complete, with only our heart beat thundering the stillness.

Patrick, our driver, proved to be very capable as he thrilled us with the dips and dives along the bushes. His sight was impressive as he was able to see animals very distant from us that I had difficulties spotting even with my 250mm lens.
Of course we had some doubts whether we should hand him the money one day before the trip but we didn’t have many other options. As I said later that evening to the sweetest one, if this was a scam it was a very credible one.
