Dazzling blue lake, flower-filled alleys and indisputable architectural elegance make Stresa the perfect getaway from the din and bustle of the city life.
Despite being a very popular destination for both tourist and locals from Italy and Switzerland, the town still has the right atmosphere for a relaxing break.
Don’t expect rampaging parties and fancy venues. Insted, get ready for slow strolls along the lake, rustic Italian food and a cup of wine in the hand, watching the sun set over the Alps.
Tip: Take a hop-on hop-off ferry your around the three Borromean islands – costs €12.50 per person (as of April 2015)
How to get to Stresa from Milan:
- by car – only 100 km away and 1.30h driving; unless you go on a weekday or you are an early bird or you are particularly patient, I don’t recommend using this option. It took us 40 minutes to find a parking
- by train – costs 8-9 euro, takes 1-1.30 hours. You can see the timetables here
