Milan Street Style: Cycling chic

Milan might not be famous for its cycle lanes but this doesn’t prevent the streets to be navigated by fearless cyclist. And when we are talking about the Italian fashion capital, it is implied that the relationship between style and cycling has to be a very intimate one.

Here are some dapper looks that I spotted this week.

What about you? What kind of cyclist are you? More Tour-de-France-kind-of-attire or a chic babe/dude?

Thank you for reading <3

  1. I really liked this post. Most people when they think of biking the idea of fashion doesn’t come to mind. It’s almost like a new way of thinking.

    1. Agree. In Milan it is easy that the two concepts coexist since the city is not so big and people use the bike to commute to work, meet with friends, etc. Glad you like it ?

  2. I’m currently living in a city that is far from bike friendly and it’s one of the things I miss the most now that summer is around the corner! And these people prove you don’t need to wear a full-on bike suit to get around… Lovely post <3

    1. London is not bike friendly? I didn’t know that, actually I have never paid attention ? you can still cycle, if the car drivers allow you ? thank you for stopping by! Xo

      1. Well, not if you compare it to cities like Copenhagen/Amsterdam but I guess that’s a tall order❤️ and of course there’s the left hand driving issue?

        1. Ahaha yeah, they have set the standards so high? the driving issue is really an issue, apparently other people handle it quite well but I need months to get used to it and then other months to get unused, my brain is just not made for this ?

  3. very nice post and interesting…bikes in Amsterdam are common where I live, I drive, I see and I notice bikes everywhere…and in Milan too now.

      1. Milan is where family of my lives, and in the central part of Italy nearby the sea where my parents come from there are loads of books! However not in city….like in Milan. Yes, let me know if you ever come… Have a nice evening Gabi 🙂

    1. It should stay dry until the late afternoon so my guess is that you will see them, Italians love the sun? let me know how did it go

  4. Hello From Serbia! I love this post. I love biking, it is so good for you!. I am lucky to be from a beach town in the U.S. where this is easy and normal! Here in Serbia it is just necessary. People don’t drive cars as much and just yesterday I watched a ton of people biking around all ages. Mostly Grandma and Grandpa types in their Serbian uniforms. Not so fashion forward in small town Serbia. 😉

    1. This is interesting, in Bulgaria few people use the bike and mostly for fitness purposes, not as a mean of transport. It must be fascinating to see people in ‘serbian uniforms’ – if everyone was chic it wouldn’t be so interesting ? I wonder why they don’t drive cars? They don’t have or just don’t want?

      1. Cars and gas is expensive. People here are really poor. Poorer than southern Italy. 🙁 On the up side, I think it is better they are so active. Older people are never on those motorized and chairs. and seem much more capable than in the U.S.

        1. It sounds like a logic explanation. Maybe I should consider moving in bike more often, for sure the benefits won’t be only for the environment ?

  5. London is okish for cycling but its big upsurge in popularity in recent years is due to fitness, so lots of lycra. I know people who will take a spare change of clothes to the office with them so they’re not wearing a sweaty suit for the rest of the day.

I can’t wait till I’m cycling around my new home in the flat bike-friendly Netherlands next year. From your pictures there is something about a well dressed man on a bicycle that really does it for me!

    1. Isn’t it too cold to cycle in the Netherlands most of the time? In Milan most people start using bikes wheb the magnilias start to blossom. As for the well dresses men … I need to do a separate post about Italian guys, they really know what they are doing when it comes to style ? such a pleasure for the eyes ?

  6. im one of those ‘my bike got stolen and i didnt buy a new one yet’ persons ^^ but i prefer an old, changed-to-match-my-style one, not the sport-cyclist here 🙂

    1. Ahaha, this sounds familiar. I have a friend whose bike was stolen 3 times in 2 months ( 3 different bikes ) At the end she gave up and now uses the car ⛔️

  7. Love cities where cycling is king – adds a whole new dimension to people-watching and fashion takes! I love true vintage skirts that were made for cycling when women’s bikes dipped low between the seat and handlebars. Thanks for visiting my true vintage closet!

  8. Reblogged this on bears goats and strawberries and commented:
I’d do it more country style. Cute knee length dress; slight flounce at skirt. Booty shorts under to “match”… Sandal clogs and a French braid or bun with lots of designer bobby pins tucked in to highlight the style. Purse in basket, and a seat facing sideways on the back to take a friend or little pet carrier on back.
