Things about fashion weeks you might not know (unless you are a fashion aficionado) and some tips for the aspiring influencers.
- What happens outside the shows is as important of what happens inside. This means that even you don’t have an invitation you need to bring your ass to the venue. If you are not photographed at fashion week, then you don’t really exist.
- No show starts if the editors of the largest fashion magazines, the buyers for the biggest boutiques and the it girls (or boys) have not taken their seats. Which doesn’t happen before all the street style pics are taken. Usually the last to enter are all the bloggers/influencers whose presence on the web is as important as the air we breath.
- Most of those naturally looking laughing, walking, running pics that you see around are actually posed. Sometimes it might take more walks up and down until everyone has gotten the perfect shot.
- The timing is important – if you arrive together with all the million-followers-on-instagram chicks I can assure you that no lens will be on you (unless I’m there). Come at least half an hour before the show and don’t go until it has finished. The photographers don’t really have a lot to do in those 15 minutes so this is your best chance to get the camera attention.
- The first thing the above mentioned Instagram stars/editors share with each other as soon as they meet is the brand/brands of the outfit they wear.
- Some of them don’t know what brands they wear so they need to ask a member of their crew.
And several things that I noticed the past three days:
- the photographers are style icons too, most of them were really well dressed. I might do a separate post about their outfits.
- the show venues are full of teen girls who patiently wait for the male models to go out for a breath of fresh air – read as cigarette (am I the only one who has never been attracted to a model?!) and take a selfie.
- patiently is not the right adjective for the girls who were attending the appearance of Lucky Blue Smith, the teen model everyone’s drooling over. They were hysterically screaming his name, but what is even more relevant, they contributed to the total lack of space on the side walk.
- which then contributed to the invasion of the street for the happiness of the drivers.
- while the Italian teenagers were exhilarated by Lucky, their Chinese peers were doing the same but this time the reason was a pair of almond shaped eyes. I’m totally clueless who who this guy is (marble face?), so if there is any Chinese reader who is more into the know, please enlighten me!
I will upload a video on Youtube later will all the craziness from yesterday (featuring hazardous walking/shooting in the middle of the street). I will post the link here – Milan Fashion Week as seen from the street.
Great post, definitely enjoyed!!

Ahhh thank you! Mistery solved!
Hey Gabi, how are you doing? You seem quite busy lately with fashion week and everything 🙂 I was reading your article this morning before I went to work and I thought those men have quite a cool style. Then I was thinking if I could wear something like that at work. I like to go to work in a business/smart casual style…you know suit trousers and a collared shirt. No tie. Rolled up sleeves 🙂 But it is always the same. So, if you have any tipps for me on does and don’ts for a smart casual style, I’d love to hear them 🙂 Might be something you could write about one day 😉 Btw, love your pictures in Elle SA!
Hi Dennis, it was a very intense week because of Pitti and fashion week but it was super fun. I want more ? thank you for taking a look at my pics for Elle! As for your question, yayyyy I love questions like this. Since you don’t work in the fashion industry I think that you should stick to suit trousers and shirts but you can experiment with colors and cuts. The pants above the ankle are a must. You can play with the shoes – like loafers with tassels, slipons – plain or with some kind of decoration or oxford or derby shoes with extra big sole, that can be also in a contrasting color. Wear them with invisible socks. For the winter, instead, put the accent on the socks.
Also multiple bracelets are a trendy addition to the look. If I come up with something else I will tell you ?
Sounds like a fun week 🙂 Cooool, thank you so much for the ideas. I will definitely try the pants above the ankle. I already have some kind of derby and oxford shoes. It’s perfect! I had to google oxford and derby shoes, though 😉 And if you come up with something else, I’d be happy to hear about it.
I will be waiting for your outfit post! ?
Haha, I actually did try out the pants over ankle look today. It’s awesome! Very cool and still “business” enough. Great for the summer season 🙂
Bravo Dennis! Be the style dictator at your company! ?
I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award! You can see the post here 🙂 http://roshnimistry.com/?p=1238 xxx
Thank you, dear! ?
I really enjoyed this post Gabi. My personal preference is for the unknown Chinese guy ahahha Really who is he??? P>S> I hope my bf i snot reading this 😀
Thank you, Radi! The Chinese guy? Really? It’s all yours, and to the Chinese girls of course ? I found out ( thanks to a comment above ) that he is Yang Yang, an actor.
Surprisingly I prefer the Chinese since he`s times more manly than Lucky Blue hahahah
This is sure! But keep in mind that on his face (Yang Yang’s) he had more make up than a Lebanese bride 😀
And probably even more surgeries than her hahahahah
Ahahaha I couldn’t stop laughing
